Haven't listened to this Pharoah Sanders classic for several years. A nice tribute that made me smile.

A favorite of mine from Pharoah Sanders. Sanders has a soft, lyrical side that is sometimes forgotten when we stereotype free jazz as always atonal or a collection of honks and screeching. The inimitable Lonnie Liston Smith is also present, on piano, playing a solo that surprisingly has not been sampled by the hip-hop generation yet?

Jazz, Coltrane, Sanders, Lorca

Epic tribute to John Coltrane's "Ole," itself based on "El Quinto Regimiento," a song of the Spanish Civil War derived from earlier Andalusian folk music. As for the link to Lorca, we must remember the Spanish poet's dedication to the music and folklore of al-Andalus. Although I prefer McCoy Tyner's style over William Henderson, Sanders and Idris Muhammad are on fire in this performance.
