A few "research" projects have plunged this blog's author deep into the colony of Saint Domingue, with all its horrors. Tracking down specific "nations" among the captive enslaved population and different areas of the territory is quite exhausting, although it is sometimes easier to find sources from the colonial period than moments after 1804. The above French lecture does a nice job contextualizing slavery in the French colonies during the period I am looking at, from St. Christophe through the Code Noir. A bit more details on the enslavement of "Amerindians" and Africans in the early days of Saint Domingue would have been helpful, but a nice start.
