Duvalier and Noirisme

Sometimes Haiti Inter features very interesting discussions of Haitian literature. While Duvalier's own writings are certainly tainted by his embrace of biological notions of race and, later on, his brutal dictatorship, he nonetheless represents an importance stage in Haitian noirisme. One cannot understand Haiti of the 20th century and the lingering legacy of Duvalierism without understanding noirisme.
