Malcolm, the Nation of Islam, and Haiti

Check this out. Who knew there was a significant influence from a Haitian on Elijah Muhammad via Theodore Rozier! Also, I always wondered why Haiti was conspicuously absent in Malcolm's speeches, or in the Nation of Islam. Perhaps that deserves further inquiry?

  1. Haitians have the habit of showing up in all kinds of places. W.E.B. Dubois's paternal grandmother was Haitian. Marie-Joseph Benoît Dartagnan Sylvain a/k/a Bénito Sylvain Was a founder of Pan-Africanism and a member of one of Haiti's finest intellectual clans. The following links will lead you to discover some of the members of that remarkable family. http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benito_Sylvain

    1. I knew of DuBois Haitian ancestry, but could never find much more about it. I've heard of Benito Sylvain via reading a book about the African diaspora in the Americas and Ethiopia. He was a fascinating man who does not get the recognition he deserves.

So true, Haitians have the habit of showing up in all kinds of places, like the Kreyolicious piece on that Haitian barber of Abraham Lincoln

    2. Bénito Sylvain was a fascinating guy, check out this picture of him in military uniform, http://cameroonvoice.com/news/news.rcv?id=6083. Ok, you heard of Mr. Sylvain, how about his niece? You're always talking about elite and/or subaltern women, I bring you one on a silver platter, in a manner of speaking, and no reaction! I hope to read something from you on these remarkable people. Do you know anything about Maths? If you do can you tell me if this guy, Jean Lhermite Junior Lainé, is for real or a joke?

    3. I read the piece about her and plan on looking her up again. You will, one day, one day. I came across some of Sylvain's Pan-Africanist writings online recently, but they'll be much easier for you to decipher given your fluency in French versus my rudimentary background in the language.

You've exposed my ignorance, I know nothing about Jean Lhermite Junior Lainé. Was he int he news recently, because I haven't heard of him yet.
