Classic Boondocks: Huey on MLK

Oh, Huey. Although I certainly see what he's getting at with the lack of progress despite racial integration, Huey and Jazmine certainly are better off in some ways having access to bastions of white privilege. Anywho, Huey is right in a later strip in pointing out how phony so much of the praise and celebration of integration and MLK is in this country. At least Huey gets points for consistency. He never pretends to care about racial harmony, integration, and nonviolence like most Americans!

  1. This is excellent, I've seen some of those upper middle class mcmansions and their neighborhoods in the middle of nowhere, where you need a car just to go to the store. They look better on the pages of magazines than in real life. I'd guess that in a few years, the cities will be gentrified and the suburbs will become the new ghettos. Don't laugh, Harlem started out as a place for the well-off.

    1. I'm not so sure. I think there are still hordes of people who value and want to live in the suburbs. Hipsters, young whites, and the so-called 'creative class' who flock to cities and push gentrification are only one segment of the population. I think suburbs have gotten increasingly poorer and will likely continue to do so for some time, but I think it will be a while before the 'city' becomes hip for the entirety of White America.
