Haiti on Tumblr

Sadly, my favorite history blog will likely never return. Haitian History Blog was not only high quality, sourced, and nuanced, but one of the few serious blogs on Haitian history. For a variety of reasons, the administrators got sick of disrespect and the Tumblr community, and while I sympathize with their plight and agree with them on some of the flaws of Tumblr, I hope they return to blogging with a wordpress. At the very least, they will keep the blog open so we can always return. In the meantime, we still have Haiti In the Americas, a great Tumblr blog associated with a graduate course at Yale on Haiti.

  1. Hello, I am one of the moderators of the Haitian History Blog and just recently found out about this (excellent) site. I was (happily) surprised when I read this post. Thank you very much for your kind words!
(There is actually a wordpress associated with HHB but, we are not sure at the moment what should be done. I think perhaps we will try to focus on school for now (and let some of our anger go) and then reevaluate the situation during the winter break).

Much thanks! When your work is called "filth" and "whitepedia" it's always nice to know some people understood what you were very humbly trying to achieve.

    - Best.

    1. Thank you for your very kind words, too. My blog isn't nearly as aesthetically pleasing or well sourced as yours! I've been an avid follower of your blog (commenting with the name riveraismael, after Ismael Rivera, legendary salsa singer) and will miss your work. I hope you return to blogging in some form after winter break!

    2. Ahh yes, I remember you now, you did comment quite a few times.
Ha! Cleaver username! I called our wordpress "larevueindigene" a while ago for the actual Revue Indigène co-founded by Haitian Marxist/Communist Jacques Roumain.

And about the possibility of returning blogging, I think this blog was very useful even to us in terms of the reading suggestions and the primary sources that were assembled there. Thus, it would be quite sad not to continue some of the projects we started there because they were complementary to our work in many ways. So, next month we'll probably consider again what to do, as I suppose we perhaps closed the blog on an (-justifiable) impulse.

At any rate, much thanks again. Your questions and remarks were always very pertinent.
