Bravo. Another one of my favorites. like many not creole speaking Caribbean nationals, Tabou Combo was my gateway band to Haitian music. However, I got into Emeline's non konpa recordings relatively easily and bought everything that she has released. Along with Cubano and Larose, she had become my favorite Haitian vocalist. Then I read about Ti Manno and started to take a deeper listen...
I like Tabou Combo, but I can't help but feel their music is too 'tainted' by funk and other US music since the 1980s. They're good, but I prefer their earlier music from the 1970s. And it seems like everyone likes Emeline Michel...my mom has had one of her CDs for over a decade, but I didn't start listening to her until very recently. She's an amazing singer, that's for sure
