Although Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers recorded the definitive version, we were pleasantly surprised to listen to Emmet Cohen perform the piece with Bartley and Harris. This version of Walton's "Ugetsu" is spirited, passionate, and features some expressive playing from the horns. Cohen's piano solo is one of the more unique and exciting runs we have heard from him. Bartly was cooking on the alto saxophone. For a second, he even brought to mind a young Eric Dolphy staying within the confines of bop (yet screaming for freedom).
