"The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss)"

A favorite jam of mine, which I had forgotten the name and haven't heard in several years, Betty Everett's version of the tune is perfect 1960s girl group soul, featuring The Opals. Though recorded by a plethora of other singers, Everett, who considered the song puerile according to Wikipedia, delivers a stunning performance with her acrobatic vocals and sing-shout delight. The additional flourishes of the marimba (or xylophone?), which remind one of "Spanish Harlem," also go along well with the pronounced, quasi-Latin rhythms. The Opals are on point, too, though the star of the show is clearly Everett, who sounds like she comes out of church with her depth and power. There is a timeless quality to this song. "If you wanna know if he loves you so, it's in his kiss!"
