Los Mariachis

From Tijuana Moods, an old Mingus record that really laid the foundation for his future masterpiece, The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady. Like that future great album, several compositions for this piece are suites and feature emotionally-charged fusions of flamenco, Latin, blues, and jazz. Inspired by Mingus's trip to Mexico after the ordeal of experiencing his failed marriage to Celia, his heartbreak fuels the genius of the album. Definitely one of my favorites from a mastermind of jazz.
